Community Health Systems is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) and must be governed by a board of directors whose requirements include:

• Have a majority composition of patients of the health center who are representative of the populations served by the center.
• Ensure CHS is community based and responsive to the community’s needs.

• • • Determine the CHS’ mission, core values and vision
  • • Select and evaluate the Chief Executive Officer
  • • Ensure effective organizational planning
  • • Ensure adequate resources are managed effectively
  • • Monitor CHS programs and services
  • • Enhance CHS' public exposure and standing
  • • Maintain organizational accountability – legally and ethically
  • • Recruit new Board members and regularly assess Board performance
